'Tis the season...

...FOR GIVING!!

I just love my job. I honestly do. And anyone who works with an organisation like the National Autistic Society knows what I'm talking about. Supporting someone to do the things that they want to do and to attain a sense of independence is so unbelievably rewarding. Plus, it's fun, every day is different and it makes for a lot of heartwarming and seriously hilarious moments. How many other jobs can actually offer all of that?

The NAS has sent out a Christmas appeal for donations for their helpline - a telephone service that offers individuals with autism and their families a source of information and help in times of crisis.

The NAS is an organisation that is close to my heart for so many reasons, but I know that there are many other charities out there that could also use your support.

So, this holiday season, I challenge each and every one of you to make a donation somewhere, anywhere. It could be a personal donation to an organisation that has affected your life or the life of someone you know. Or perhaps you'll decide to donate money with a group of friends, in place of your usual secret Santa, white elephant or other yearly gift exchange. It could even just mean actually taking the time to drop your spare change into the containers of the people singing carols and ringing bells for charities on almost every street corner. If you are unable to donate money, your time can be just as valuable. Volunteers are such an important part of organisations that run off of donations.

Challenge yourselves and do something that will make a difference in the lives of others. And trust me, it will leave you with one of the best feelings in the world.

Love and generosity.

P.S. Sent out my visa application last week. Keep your fingers crossed!
